Install single-ply roofing system using waterproof sheet materials, such as modified plastics, elastomeric or other asphaltic compositions. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements . Repair or replace shingles and shakes on sloped roofs of buildings. Repair or replace single-ply roofing systems. Repair roofing systems. Instruct apprentices. Supervise other workers. Apply waterproof coatings to concrete or other masonry surfaces below or above ground level. Install and repair metal roofs using hand and power tools. Install sheet metal flashings. Estimate costs and materials. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Roofer Trade Certification. Working at heights training. First Aid Certificate. Propane in Construction Record of Training. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Roofer Red Seal Certificate. Fall Arrest Protection Training Course. Specialization or experience: Specialized environmental skills and knowledge. Area of specialization: Shingled roofs. Conventional and inverted built-up system. Modified roofing system. Single ply sheet membrane roofing system. Security and safety: Driving record check (abstract). Transportation/travel information: Own vehicle. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Handling heavy loads. Large workload. Repetitive tasks.
