Ride-hailing service Lyft is now authorized to operate in Winnipeg, having secured approval from the City. Lyft is now hiring drivers and will soon be running alongside Uber and a few local ride-sharing services. Ride-hailing accounted for nearly half of all vehicle-for-hire trips in Winnipeg last year, almost even with taxi companies.
Winnipeg’s public works committee has voted to recommend continuing the City’s wheelchair accessible vehicle program, which began as a pilot project two years ago. The City partnered with taxi companies, training drivers and offering incentives to provide accessible rides. The service was originally scheduled to end on December 31.
