Following the decision to cut immigration levels in 2025, the federal government has allocated 4,750 nominees for Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program, down from 9,540 in 2024. Manitoba had requested 12,000 nominees for 2025, causing concern from businesses about prolonged job vacancies and labour shortages. Rural communities may be particularly impacted.
In 2023, Churchill’s tourism industry contributed $99.8M to the province’s GDP and created about 1,395 direct and indirect jobs, according to a report by Travel Manitoba. About 25,000 people visited Churchill last year, many of them international tourists.

Alamo Management recently reopened its downtown Winnipeg hotel with a new name and expanded rooms and amenities. The $30M renovation includes 47 new suites, a gym, lobby bar, and additional meeting space. The hotel, formerly Best Western Plus, has been rebranded as the Hampton Inn by Hilton Winnipeg Downtown.
