The Qinnirvik Country Food and Bulk Store in Iqaluit has opened for business. The store offers locally-harvested food that it acquires in partnership with hunters, as well as produce and other grocery items. The store uses a sliding scale to keep prices low and improve local food security.
Fouquet Morel, a fine foods store, inaugurated its location in L’Ouvrage, an agri-food innovation centre in Trois-Rivières. The store required an investment of nearly $1.8M. The company currently employs 85 people in its three local boutiques.
Loblaws Inc. plans to invest $2.2B this year, opening 80 new stores, renovating over 300 grocery and pharmacy locations, and adding 100 new Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada. This expansion will create 8,000 new jobs nationwide.
