The Government of Alberta is transferring 425 staff from Alberta Health Services to Acute Care Alberta, one of four new agencies created by the Province’s restructuring of its health care system. The Province stated that it has eliminated five positions as part of the transition, none of which are front-line staff.
A new senior care facility, the Pleasant View Lodge, recently opened in Spirit River. The facility provides 92 spaces ranging from independent living to continuing care home (CCH) spaces. Half of the 52 CCH spaces are reserved for residents with dementia who need higher levels of support.
A new facility specializing in eating disorder treatment and recovery has opened in northeast Calgary. The EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre can house 12 people at once and accepts clients between the ages of 12 and 24. Provincial funding of $10M over three years, 2023 to 2026, allows the centre to provide free treatment for up to 52 clients each year.
The Government of Alberta is providing up to $6M in matching grants to help up to 30 rural municipalities around the province expand team-based care at rural primary health care clinics. The grants will match funds up to $200,000.
